How can cognitive behavioural therapy help me to navigate my fatigue and other persistent symptoms?

How can cognitive behavioural therapy help me to navigate my fatigue and other persistent symptoms?

Louise Ross

Living with fatigue, pain, or cognitive difficulties can be overwhelming—especially when symptoms persist without clear answers. Many people I work with have experienced confusion around onset, distressing interactions with healthcare professionals, and a loss of confidence or identity as their health has changed.

Psychological therapy can help you make sense of your symptoms in a safe, validating space. Your symptoms are real and physical, and we also understand that the body and mind are deeply connected. Stress, fear, and difficult past experiences can keep the nervous system in a state of high alert, which can intensify symptoms and make recovery feel harder. Psychological therapy can support your system in gently finding safety again.

I work using a trauma-informed, biopsychosocial approach. Together, we focus on:

  • Stabilisation – creating emotional and physical safety, managing symptoms, and rebuilding trust in your body.
  • Reprocessing – making sense of difficult experiences, including past trauma or medical invalidation.
  • Reintegration – reconnecting with your identity, boundaries, and future goals, and supporting you to advocate for your needs in healthcare and beyond.

This approach is collaborative, compassionate, and always paced to suit your needs.
